Streete Vintage Club: Appreciation Party, Streete Vintage Club are holding an appreciation party for anybody that helped them out with their events this year in Connaughtons Pub Rathowen on Sunday 26th October. Longford Libraries: are inviting young readers to unleash their creativity in our annual 'Design a Bookmark' competition as part of our Children’s Book Festival, which runs throughout the month of October. Children aged 4–13 are encouraged to design their very own bookmarks, with winning entries professionally printed and distributed across all six branch libraries. The competition is open to two age categories: 4–8 years and 9–13 years. Each category will have one winning design, giving young artists the chance to see their work shared with the community. Entry forms are available at all local libraries. Participants are encouraged to create bookmarks inspired by their love of reading, with ideas such as “I love books!” or “I love reading!”. Completed entries should be returned to a local library by 8 November 2025. This competition offers a fun and creative way for children to celebrate their passion for reading while contributing to a lasting library keepsake for fellow readers. Active Retirement: A great turn out last Tuesday morning for our drop in morning, wonderful to see new faces. Thank you to Catriona Higgins who traveled from Ballymahon to give a demo on crafts. Self Defence Course: Grateful thanks to Thomas Farrer; for organising a Women's Self-Defence course in Streete Parish Park. Sadly, the numbers didn’t add up and despite a few women turning up it was not enough to run this very important course. Thomas has offered come back and do a one-day course in memory of Ashling Murphy, who was tragically killed in January 2022, along with a commemorative walk around the park. Streete Bowls: Streete Bowls Club had Mullingar A team and Athlone as their visitors at the Streete Complex. Last week. Streete A and Athlone had a ding dong battle winning two games each with Athlone getting the bonus point. The second game of the night saw Streete C going head-to-head with Mullingar A. Our Streete team put on a brilliant performance and both teams ended on twenty-nine points each. Streete C Team 1, Pat Hayes, Seamus Moran and Jimmy Leavy. Team 2 Elaine Murtagh, Pat Purcell and Declan Murtagh. New and lapsed members are welcome every Tuesday night at 8 o'clock.
Social Dancing Friday 31st October: Halloween Special,you are invited to dress up in whatever spooky outfit you have just for a bit of fun at our next social dance. We have the very talented Liam McLoughlin make his first appearance in Streete. Liam will travel all the way from North Antrim to entertain you. and is regarded by his fellow musicians as one of the best songwriters in country music. Declan Nerney, Patrick Feeney, Bonnie Stewart, Jason McGilligan, Noel Flynn, and many other well-known singers have recorded songs penned by Liam. He has been playing the dance circuit in Ireland and further afield for quite a few years and played in the Irish Clubs in New York, Philadelphia, and Boston. We are delighted to welcome him to our stage in Streete for one night only. So please tell your friends and come along for a great night of country and social dance music. 2nd Annual Heaney Boy Pool Tournament: Takes place in the ’98 Bar, Ballinamuck on Sunday 26th October 2025. Boherquill Ramblers: The benign October weather continued for the Ramblers walk through Kilbixy forest on Sunday 12 October 2025. Large areas of trees had been felled and cleared, removing most of the evidence of damage caused by storms earlier this year. Near the end of the walk St, Bigseach’s church was passed; it has been beautifully restored in recent years and is now a venue for functions such as the annual poetry evening as well as remaining a place of worship. On Sunday 26 October 2025 the Ramblers will visit Longford for a walk along the disused canal link to the Royal Canal.
