Streete Vintage Club Sadness
It is with deep sadness that we learned of the passing of Johnny Lennon, Ballinalee. Johnny was not only a wonderful ambassador for our vintage show in Streete over many years, but also a true gentleman and dear friend to so many within the vintage community. His passion for his little Hillman Imp, vintage machinery, and his wealth of knowledge was second to none, Johnny’s warm, welcoming nature made him a familiar and much-loved face at events both near and far. He always had time for a chat, a story, or a helping hand, and his kindness and good humour left a lasting impression on everyone who had the pleasure of knowing him.
His presence brought great warmth and character to our shows, and he will be deeply missed by all at Streete Vintage show and throughout the wider vintage world. We extend our heartfelt condolences to Johnny’s wife Sophie, his family, friends, and all who mourn his loss. Johnny will be fondly remembered in our Annual Vintage Mass held in conjunction with our show on June 28th. May his gentle soul rest in heavenly peace.
Boherquill Ramblers
The Ramblers 2026 Walking Festival took place on Friday 8th May and Sunday 10th May. On Friday everyone met at Jane O’Reilly’s Coffee Shop in Fore for either a short walk around the Nellie to Nancy loop or a longer walk out to Lough Lene and back. Tea and scones to the sound of music from a lively group of Castlepollard musicians rounded off a very entertaining evening. The walkers met again at the Coffee Shop in Fore on Sunday morning to board a bus for the main event of the weekend: a walk through Coolnagun Bog and on to an old green road near Shrubbywood, before a break for lunch beside Lough Derravaragh.
After lunch the walk continued through Coolure Demesne and Tullynally Castle Estate, leaving just a short walk into Castlepollard, the end of the walk for most, where lifts back to Fore in cars were on offer. Some intrepid walkers did complete the full walk back to Fore, however, making a total distance of 25km. Any aching muscles were soothed with more tea and delicious cakes in The Coffee Shop. Many thanks to all the Club members who worked so hard before and during the Festival to make the event such a success.
Special thanks to Jane O’Reilly of Fore Coffee Shop for the abundant refreshments over the weekend and to the musicians on Friday night. Thank you to Shane Salmon of Salmon’s coaches in Castlepollard who provided the bus on Sunday. Many thanks to Tullynally Castle and Coolure Demesne for permission to pass through their property. The assistance of Damien McHugh of Bord na Mona was appreciated when planning the route. On Sunday 24 May 2026 the Ramblers will meet at 2pm at Edgeworthstown church for a walk led by Deirdre Leavy.
The Ramblers walk on Sunday 17 May 2026 had to be cancelled due to heavy rain. The Ramblers next walk will be on Sunday 31 May 2026 when they will visit the Rathowen Bog walk. Cars will meet at 2pm at the start of the walk on the Rathowen to Streete Road near Rathowen Church. See boherquillramblers.ie
