May his gentle soul rest in heavenly peace.

Congratulations: and best wishes to newlyweds, Pauline Parker Streete and Maurice Kelter. Maurice a native of Tralee Co, Kerry is no stranger to Streete and fitted in well to help out at many events over the years. Both Pauline and Maurice, who now live in Australia traveled all the way to celebrate their big day recently. The wedding venue midway between Westmeath and Kerry took place in the Ashley Park House, Nenagh Co, Tipperary where the happy couple along with family and close friends enjoyed a most memorable and beautiful day. Pauline is daughter of John and Philomena Parker Dunamon, Streete, who are delighted to welcome another Son into the family. We wish Pauline and Maurice every happiness in their future plans together and we wish them both a long and happy life filled with great joy riches and good health, a fantastic honeymoon, and a safe return trip to Australia,

First Holy Communion: The celebration of First Holy Communion took place on Saturday. We pray that Lilly, Aoife, Karen, Keyah, Marlie, Emily, Paddy, Zane, Thomas, James, Jayden, Zack, and Benjamin will find the love of god and God will watch over them and guide them through life.

Active Retirement: The Glorious sunshine welcomed Streete Active Retirement Group as we arrived at the Bord Bia Bloom 2025 festival in the Phoenix Park on Monday Last. It felt like the first day of summer as the warm sunshine shone down, along with the sweet smell of sunscreen filling the air. This is our groups second visit to bloom in recent years and as always, we praised the “great vibe” and the inspirational exhibits on display. As we marveled at the many Designer gardens, cookery demonstrations and all that was on offer, some of our group, were busy scouting for ideas for the future development and enhancement of grass spaces around our Parish Park. Asking questions and showing a great interest in wildflowers that would create a symphony of organic growth which would be low or no maintenance I quickly realised I had never seen so many beautiful flowers on display, each with a charter of their own and ones that seem to attract the humble bumblebee in numbers.  While walking around I chanced to ask a few questions of a couple who were being interviewed by a news reporter, the couple were only too willing to engage in a conversation, I was astounded to find they had a great knowledge of our local boglands in Longford Westmeath and stop off in Feerick’s Rathowen regularly while passing through. these very inspiring people offered to come to our parish park and take a look around and perhaps lend us some ideas, and as I said to them if nothing else it would be a great honour to have a Chelsea and Bloom Flower Show winner visit our community. The food halls and Garden supply centres as always offered some of our eager beavers some great last day value specials and as we loaded up the bus, we made our way back to Streete. Our Chairman Francis Butler would like to say thank you to our group for attending and a special word of thanks to Alan Salmon Bus Company for providing safe and comfortable transport for our day out. Next trip coming up soon.

Boherquill Ramblers: On Sunday 1 June 2025 the Ramblers enjoyed a delightful summer’s afternoon walk near Kilbeggan along part of the abandoned canal that runs from Kilbeggan Harbour to Ballycommon. Some of the group chose to walk the return leg in dappled sunshine under the trees on the grassy side of the canal, past the idyllic scene of an old, thatched farmhouse and stone outbuildings with a hedge full of sweet pea flowers and fragrant roses, and lots of wild daisies underfoot. On Sunday 15 June 2025 the Ramblers will walk at Ballinafid. Cars will meet at 2pm in the car park on the side road signed for Ballinafid Lake on the N4 opposite the Multyfarnham turn-off (The Covert). Boots are advised for this boardwalk and forest trail walk. The Ramblers were delighted to hear that their Vice-Chair Declan Leonard recently received the Cathaoirleach's Award as Westmeath Person of the Year. Congratulations to all the Award nominees, especially Kevin Brady of Streete Parish Park who we are proud to call a friend and supporter of the Ramblers. Melkernagh Bog near Lismacaffrey was the setting for the Ramblers walk on Sunday 25 May 2025. Deirdre Leavy led the way out along the Lismacaffrey to Granard road for a short distance before turning off the road into the bog. A combination of a couple of kilometers of bog roads and side roads led the group on an enjoyable afternoon’s walk with the rain even holding off until the post-walk refreshments were almost finished. Thank you to Deirdre for leading the walk. On Sunday 8 June 2025 the Ramblers will walk in Rathowen bog.
