Unfortunately, due to issues beyond our control our Cars & Coffee meet scheduled for last Sunday morning 8th March had to be called off due to issues beyond our control. We apologize wholeheartedly to anyone who had planned to attend or had travelled for the event. We also want to apologise to many of the locals who had baked goods, donated raffle prizes, or offered their services in any way shape or form. We do hope to reschedule to a date in the future.

Boherquill Ramblers

The Ramblers walked at Ballinea on Sunday 1 March 2026, the first day of spring. After walking along the Canal towpath from Ballinea to Clonmore on the outskirts of Mullingar, most of the group took the option of returning to Ballinea along the Old Rail Trail.

There were a few ducks at Ballinea as usual at that location, probably attracted by the chance of some food from visitors to this popular walking area. A couple of swans were also resting on the towpath.

On Sunday March 15, 2026, the Ramblers will walk at Ballinafid. Cars will meet at 14:00 (2 PM) at the car park on the road signed for Ballynafid Lake off the N4 opposite the Multyfarnham turn-off (The Covert). Boots are advised for this boardwalk and forest trail walk. Visit: Boherquill Ramblers.

Congratulations

Congratulations & Best Wishes Laura Pakenham

To Laura Pakenham from Lisryan on the launch of her new book, Irish: History and Culture through Language. Laura, who is well known for sharing her love of Gaeilge on TikTok and as a presenter on TG4, was proudly supported by her parents, Robert, and Clair, and brother Robert Junior at her book launch in Charlie Byrne’s Bookshop in Galway City recently.

This wonderful book explores 200 Irish words and phrases and what they reveal about the culture and history of Ireland. You don’t need to be fluent in Irish to appreciate the beauty of this book. Written in English, it explores the Irish language and brings it to life in a vibrant and engaging way from cover to cover.

The book would make a beautiful gift and is available in most good bookstores. For local people, the shop in Lisryan also has copies available for sale at only €15. Best of luck to Laura with the book, and congratulations on such a fantastic achievement.
