Active Retirement
Chair yoga now confirmed for 6 Tuesday sessions of 1 hr. duration starting on Tuesday 10th February at Streete Parish Park at 10 AM. cost per person per session €10 - We invite you to try your hand at the very popular Pickleball game, which takes place every Monday at 10 AM till 11.30 AM. You are welcome to drop in any Thursday morning from 11 AM until 12.30 PM. to sample what our Active retirement mornings are all about. We have a number of day trips coming up, if you would like to come along for a nice no pressure day out, please contact Kevin (087) 137 5222. Or a committee member.
Boherquill Ramblers
The Ramblers met for their 2026 AGM at Streete Parish Park on Sunday 1 February. Their walk to Coolnagun Bog and back before the AGM was blessed with bright sunshine and mild conditions. Later in the afternoon at the Ramblers 2026 AGM it was agreed that the standing Committee would remain in office with Alice Nerney as Chair and Declan Leonard as Deputy Chair. Nini Murray continues as Club Secretary (assisted by Patricia Bruton).
Cathy Hopkins continues as Club Treasurer (assisted by Eileen Moreton). Frank Higgins remains on the Committee as does PRO Philip Epps. The second weekend in May was chosen as the Annual Walking Festival as in previous years with the weekend’s events still to be organised. Thanks to Streete Parish Park for the use of the facilities at the park on the day. On Sunday 15 February 2026 the Ramblers will meet at 2pm at Mary Lynch’s pub in Coralstown beside the N4 east of Mullingar. Visit: Boherquill Ramblers.
Coolamber ICA Guild
The Irish Countrywomen’s Association. The ICA ladies meet up on the first Tuesday of every month in Streete Parish Park at 7 Pm, new members are always welcome to attend and become part of a welcoming and fun organisation which offers support, friendship, personal development, education, and lifelong learning. art crafts cooking, etc. or just want to meet new people. New History Call
Some time ago, I invited anyone with an interest in our local heritage to come together with the aim of creating a new multi-volume book on the history of our parish. The vision is an in-depth work that explores our story from the earliest times through to the last century, encompassing archaeology, townlands, military history, ecclesiastical history, and all that has shaped our community over generations.
This project will also follow the stories of love, war and adventure of people who left our parish for far-off places, and who still retain a strong connection with home today. It will be an opportunity for everyone to tell their story in their own way, representing our schools, our children, young people, the old and every household that feels they have something to contribute — from the cradle to the grave.
Our last book, launched in 2013, was a fantastic success. It formed the foundation for the largest gathering our parish has ever seen. I hope this new project will once again bring people together and provide the reason for another great gathering in the coming years, with collaboration and community spirit at its heart.
The response to the initial call was very positive, and I am delighted to say that a core group is now forming. If you would like to be part of this exciting venture — whether as a researcher, writer, storyteller, collector of photographs or memories, or simply as someone with an interest — you are very welcome to get involved. Social Dance
We have another very popular entertainer, Kieran McAree all the way from Donegal. Kieran always provides a fantastic night of live entertainment. So, tell all your dancing friends Streete Parish Park is the place to be on Friday night 27th of February. Doors open at 9 pm, raffle and super served all for only €10.
Table Quizz
Streete Active Retirement Group are holding a quiz night in the crossroads in Lisryan on Friday 13th of February, all proceeds to aid the group progression. Table of 4 €40 Raffle prizes on the night. We would greatly appreciated donations and help on the night. Please come along and support.
Big Breakfast
A reminder our Big Breakfast morning fundraiser is coming up on Sunday 22nd of February in Streete Parish Park. This extraordinarily successful social gathering scene over three hundred breakfast’s being served last year and our hall packed with family, neighbours, and friends from start to finish.
We are grateful to everyone who have supported this event in the past and hopes we will get the same support this year. All funds raised go towards the costs of keeping our Community Centre open. The Breakfast morning is a fantastic way to meet up with neighbours and friends. It is also a wonderful way to bring family members together who often do not get a chance to meet because of other commitments.
Tickets will be on sale in the coming weeks. to the Quinn Family, Ruthall, Bottomy, Streete, on the sad passing of Willie’s Brother John Joseph Quinn, Dungiven, Co Derry. Beloved husband of Peggy, loving father and Grandfather, John will be dearly missed by his brother Willie and wife Bridget Streete.
