Streete Vintage Club: Express deepest sympathies to the McDonnell, family Finglas, Dublin on the sad passing of Tom McDonnell. Tom attended our vintage show with his lifelong friend and fellow tinsmith Jim Collins for many years demonstrating his tin smithing skills. Tom was no stranger to the local area, having spent his childhood traveling around Longford/Westmeath with his family in a horse drawn caravans, making repairing and selling their works to the local people sometimes only asking for Potatoes and vegetables in return as payment for making a tin can or bucket. He was passionate about passing down these skills to other Travelers and toured all over the country giving demonstrations and visiting vintage fairs and gatherings and talking to people about Traveller life. I was lucky enough to record some of Tom’s memories of the local area. He was a wonderful ambassador for Travelers, and he will be sadly missed from our vintage show. May his gentle soul Rest in Peace.

R.I.P at the time 12 people came forward and showed great interest. Unfortunately, trainers all over the region became so busy at the time and costs did not justify going ahead. I have contacted a highly acclaimed trainer who is willing to come to our community centre to give classes to all ages, if you are interested and I get a positive response, I will ask him to come along and give an induction talk and take it from there. please give me a call. 087 1375222

We will invite the community to a social evening in September. This event will provide an opportunity to discuss how we can all benefit from these achievements. We will offer ample information on solar panels, tips to reduce energy bills this winter, and details about available grants. Boherquill Ramblers: The Ramblers met in Aughnacliffe on Sunday 20 July 2025 for a walk led by Deirdre Leavy, mostly round the wonderful Aughnacliffe Heritage and Amenity Trail. The afternoon’s walk showcased how much work has been done to develop signed walking routes and amenities around the village. Several kilometers of new walking trails link the points of interest in the vicinity such as the two dolmens and Leebeen Lake where new fishing stands have been created and there are plans for a sauna. The final feature of the walk was Pulliness Waterfall on the edge of the village. The waterfall was used to generate electricity for the village as far back as the 1940s so the spirit of enterprise is nothing new in Aughnacliffe. Thank you to Deirdre for leading a very informative and pleasurable walk. The Ramblers will now take their usual August break and meet again on Sunday 7 September 2025. All Ramblers and their families are wished a happy and healthy month.See boherquillramblers.ie for more information.
