Easter Parade: A big shout out to everyone who helped out in coming up with ideas, decorating floats and who braved the early afternoon weather to make sure all went to plan at this year’s Easter Parade in Granard. This hugely entertaining Parade is a credit to Granard town organisers, and this year Streete Parish Park were again delighted to take part. The park float was brimming in colour and vibrancy thanks to the ladies who spent days making sure all the Parish Parks social and sporting groups were represented by banners, posters and ladies dressed in colourful and imaginative costumes as well as our vintage float, which got the word out of our upcoming vintage day on June 29th.

Sympathy: On behalf of Streete Vintage and Streete Social Dancing committee we express our condolences to the Small family Granard on the passing of their dear mother Charlotte, Lottie Small nee Campbell, late of Streete village. Predeceased by her parents Robert and Kitty, her loving husband Joseph, and her brother Charlie. Deeply regretted by her sons Fred, John, Alec and David, daughter Sarah, her grandchildren, brothers David and Sandy, sisters-in-law, cousins, relatives and friends. May her gentle soul rest in heavenly peace.
Congratulations: and well done to Trian Leslie, Streete, who ran a 21k personal half marathon on Saturday last in aid of Ben’s Lifeline charity, Trian completed the run in a time of 1hr and 23 minutes, Trian set of from his home village of Streete at 12 pm to the finish line at St. Finian’s College, Mullingar, where he is a 5th year student. Trian kept up an incredibly fast pace considering the wet conditions underfoot. Trian would like to say a special words of thanks to everyone who donated to this great worthy cause. Ben’s Lifeline, which celebrates the short life of Ben Murray from Mullingar, a happy, energetic, sport loving boy, Who Tragically died from a cardiac arrest aged just 13, due to a rare undiagnosed inherited heart condition. Grateful thanks to Trian many friends who gave him great moral support and joined him at different stages along the route, with his mother Mel supporting him on her bike the entire distance. Table Quiz. A quiz in aid of St Fintan’s Lismacaffrey and Lisryan playground upkeep will take place in Murphy’s Crossroads Inn on Friday May 2nd at 9 Pm. Reffell on the night with many great prizes to be won.
Darkness Into Light: This year we will get ready to make a difference and raise funds for Pieta house, with our first Darkness into Light walk-in memory of Patrick O’Neill, Each year the charity provides an opportunity for people to connect with their local community to bring hope to people who have been impacted by suicide and raise awareness in the global fight against suicide and self-harm. On May 10th at 4 am, come out and join us as we walk together in solidarity to support suicide prevention, honor the memory of Patrick, support his loved ones, and spread hope to people who have been impacted by suicide. It’s time to gear up, lace up your shoes, and be part of something meaningful. If you can’t, make it please put a donation in the park letter box and we will gladly pass it on. Thank you.
Active Retirement: A meeting was held on Thursday last to a good turnout of members for the usual cup of tea and the handover of the chair position to in coming chairman Francis Butler. Kevin Brady outgoing chairman thanked everyone for attending and welcomed new officers to their positions. Streete Active Retirement Group was established in April 2016 and has enjoyed some great adventures over that period, and we hope this will continue into the future. Kevin will remain on as PRO & Development Officer and will continue to support the group in any way possible. Francis Butler welcomed the new members of the committee to their role and acknowledged apologies from members who could not attend due to personal appointments.

Development Plan Consultation: I am grateful to the sporting groups who have made the effort to contact me over the last week or so in regard to the development plan and those who have welcomed the plan progressing to the next stage. It is vital all information, views and thoughts are captured now and not when the final plans are drawn up. The development committee need to know the views of those using the facilities and what needs to be included in the future development. I fully understand our Doors and floor are high on the list of priorities and quotes have been submitted. Boherquill Ramblers: The Ramblers met in Ballynacargy on Sunday 13 April 2025 for a walk beside the Royal Canal as far as Kill Bridge before turning back to the village. A cool breeze ruffled the surface of the canal now and then as showers threatened, but they held off until the post-walk refreshments were almost finished. On Sunday 27 April the Ramblers will visit Portlick Millennium Forest on the shores of Lough Ree near Glasson. Cars will meet in Ballymahon at 2pm at the petrol station on the Athlone road. Boots and sticks are advised for this walk. on Sunday 6 April 2025. The Ramblers walked under a cloudless sky at Taghmon near Mullingar. The bright sunshine accompanied by a cool breeze added up to perfect conditions for walking and the views of the surrounding countryside coming to life after the winter lifted the heart with thoughts of beautiful summer walks to come. Blackthorn was blooming in the hedges and yellow primroses were a common sight on the ditches as the group made their way around the loop. Lots of anglers were out at Galmoylestown Lake, hoping for a bite even though the bright sunshine must have reduced their chances of a catch.
